The Philippines performs best in the defence networks measure, where it places 10th. The country’s lowest ranking occurs in the resilience measure, coming in at 20th place, reflecting poor levels of internal stability.
The Philippines exerts somewhat more influence in the region than expected given its available resources, as indicated by the country’s positive power gap score.
While the Philippines is a net overachiever in Asia, its positive power gap deteriorated in 2020. This reflects Manila’s downward trending scores for defence networks, diplomatic influence and cultural influence in 2020.
